Cassie Gannis will be racing at Tucson Speedway this Saturday, March 28, in the Pizza Hut "Duel in the Desert" event. Cassie is looking forward to getting back on the track after her recent exciting experience at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida.
This weekend's event is the inaugural NASCAR event for 2015 at the track as part of the Whelen Modified Tour. Cassie will run in the Super Late Model series, with other races in Pro Stocks, Modifieds, Late Models, and Hornets.
Cassie qualified for the ARCA racing series last December in Daytona Beach, and was tapped by Carter 2 Motorsports to race in the Lucas Oil 200 at Daytona in mid-February. During qualification, she was in the 31st slot of a field of 40, but was dropped to 41 after provisionals and unfortunately wasn't able to race the main event.
Kathy Gannis, Director of Social Media and Public Relations for the family-run Cassie Gannis Racing organization, said, "Driving locally, Cassie hasn't had much chance to get experience in the fine art of drafting, and at Daytona, she got some really good experience that we think she can continue to practice back here in Arizona."
Earlier this month Cassie and her #47 car were featured at a C2Tactical Second Birthday event in Tempe, AZ. Racing fans got to see the newly repainted car up close and personal, and a few were even treated to pictures in the driver's seat.
If you can't make this race, Cassie's next racing appearance will be on May 16 at Tucson Speedway's Armed Forces Night "Minuteman 100" race.
